Keynote Speaker: Professor Partha Chatterjee (Center for the Study of Social Sciences, Calcutta, India), “Dissolution or Transformation? Studying Peasant Culture in the 21st Century”

Abstract: The lecture will talk about the peasant question as it was formulated in Asian countries in the period of nationalist and anti-colonial struggles in the 20th century. It will then consider the present conjuncture: does the future development of Asian countries require the dissolution of peasant cultures or their transformation into something new?
